For His Glory 2.0 – January 2011
Artist Statement by Bonnie Duncan Bravo
The "For His Glory" body of work incorporates traditional stained glass window designs as a reference to Christianity… With every piece I create, I desire to direct attention back to my Creator.
Potters and pottery are mentioned throughout the Bible, but my favorite verse comes from the book of Isaiah (chapter 64, verse 8):
“Yet you, LORD, are our Father. We are the clay, you are the potter, we are all the work of your hand.”
As a potter, I love functional art. I'm excited by beautiful items that serve daily purposes in my life. Sipping coffee out of a hand made mug enhances the morning! As I think about the hands that created the mug and the process it went through to become both lovely and functional, I also contemplate how this process correlates to God and His creations.
As a daughter, sister, wife, and teacher, I want to be functional to God, sharing His beauty and love with others just as I want my artwork to be of service to those who use it. …For His Glory, not mine.
